Our Baby Girl’s Nursery Tour

I used to dream about the day that I would be putting together this post and I am so excited to finally be sharing a full reveal and tour of our baby girl’s nursery. This room has been a huge labor of love these past few months and I never could have imagined that the finished product would far surpass our original dream and vision for the space. We can’t wait for our sweet baby girl to join us in a few weeks and to start making memories within the walls of our favorite and most rewarding DIY project.

The Nursery: Before & After

I thought it would be fitting to dive into this post with an overall look at the before and after of baby girl’s nursery before diving into all the individual corners of the space. It is truly wild to look at pictures of this room before we started and it feels so rewarding to know that we tackled it all on our own with just a little bit of paint, wood, wallpaper and furniture.

Below is a quick look at the vision boards I had drawn up shortly after we found out we were pregnant. Our aim was to keep the theme traditional and elegant but also practical and playful. We wanted to curate a space that was timeless enough to grow with her over the years but didn’t take away from the importance of creativity and color. I love how the vision came to life in the end and while we stuck pretty closely to our original vision, we did make a few creative liberties along the way that I can’t wait to dive into below!

Nursery Accent Wall

The first step in completing baby girl’s nursery was to paint! We knew that we wanted to start with a subtle white on all the walls in the room to give it a neutral and timeless base that could compliment our daughter’s changing style as she grows up. We went with Sherwin William’s “pure white” for the walls and baseboards and “evergreen fog” for the accent wall.

To create the accent wall, we purchased two huge sheets of MDF board at our local hardware store (big enough to span the entire width of th e wall). We then cut 1″ grooves into the boards a few inches apart to give it the custom paneling look and then glued those boards to the wall before priming and painting them. We finished it off with a simple wood trim piece across the top to give it a finished “built-in” look and voila! It turned out so beautiful and we saved so much money by using MDF boards instead of individually cut wood slats to create the paneling.

Baby Girl’s Nursery Closet

This was one of our favorite DIY projects to date. It was a lot of work, but the finished product made it so worth it! We ordered a custom closet system from modularclosets.com which let us completely customize a built-in shelf system to fit the exact measurements of our space. (P.S. You can get $50 off your own closet system by clicking this link here!)

Halfway through designing the vision for this corner of the room, we decided that adding wallpaper to the back wall would add a unique touch and elevate the closet even more. Since we had planned to remove the closet doors and leave it as an “open closet” concept, we knew that adding the wallpaper would give it the extra dimension needed to take it from simple storage space to part of the room as a whole. We went with the “Subtle Floral” traditional finish wallpaper from Livette’s Wallpaper and we love how it turned out!

The closet was pretty easy to put together once we had the tools, just a bit time consuming. This corner of the room took us the longest to complete (about a week) because we had to let the wallpaper dry (after spending 2 days on installation) and we had to manually put the closet system together before mounting it to the wall.

The Nursery Reading Nook & Play Corner

Another favorite corner of mine is this dreamy reading nook where we will store most of her books. We purchased this set of three bookshelves off Amazon in a raw wood finish and painted them to match the accent wall in the room with leftover paint we had. I did a lot of research on the most affordable bookshelves to give us the look we were going for and these were by far the best I could find. The best part is that the shelves can be turned upside down for a different look which we did with the third shelf at the bottom. This gave us extra space to hang clothes and set up other pieces of decor that needed shelf space.

I then had the idea to add a sign above the shelves that tied it all together with a whimsical quote that would fit the theme. I found this one off Etsy and just love how perfectly it tied it all together!

Whimsical Decor for a Girl’s Nursery

Once we had the bigger DIY projects in the room finished and all of her furniture in place, I knew I wanted to add a few unique pieces of decor to the space that added a whimsical touch. Some of my favorite finds include the linen canopy above her crib, the elegant gold mirror above her dresser (you won’t believe the price I snagged it for!), the washable floral rug, the name sign above her crib and all of the special touches added to the shelves of her closet system. I’ve linked all of these items and more under each picture below – let me know in the comments which is your favorite!

That concludes the full tour of our baby girl’s nursery. I hope you love how this space turned out just as much as we do and that you maybe found inspiration along the way for your own nursery project.
