The Article Sitka Sofa: A Full Review

I’ve been on the hunt for that “perfect grey couch” ever since I can remember. You know, the one that doesn’t show dog hair, that doesn’t stain easily, that’s comfortable, easily styled, and doesn’t break the bank? I finally found it. The Article Sitka Sofa is all of these things and more.

Full disclosure here: I was gifted the Sitka Sofa by Article in a collaboration, but this review here is my complete 100% honest opinion. The links presented here are affiliate links and to read more on my advertising policy, please see this page here.

Why Article?

There are quite a few reasons why I am a huge fan of Article. The mission of their brand is focused around making “great style easy, long-lasting and well-priced” and they do not disappoint in their goal of achieving this. I have spent hours doing extensive research on furniture companies that bring value to customers while using quality materials to curate pieces that fit the modern design I was aiming for. And Article has far exceeded my expectations!

Once we moved into our new house, I knew I wanted to fill it with quality pieces that would not only last a long time, but tie into the interior design vision I had been dreaming about for so long. This lead me to the Article Sitka Sofa: a perfect modern grey couch that combines cozy texture with sleek design so effortlessly.

Let’s take a closer look at the details of this sofa and why I will be swooning over it for years to come.

Quality Check: 10/10

This couch ended up being the perfect addition to our modern farmhouse chic living room. The style of the couch is so versatile, making it easy to decorate in all kinds of homes. I went back and forth on wanting a brown leather couch or one like this one here and I’m glad I went this route – it will be easy to style through all the seasons, and even to transition into my differing design tastes over the years!

The seat cushions are made with high resiliency foam and polyester which to me screams quality. Of all the research I did on higher end sofas, this is the formula for durability. This is also what you will see in most of Pottery Barn and West Elm’s higher end sofas!

I also actually love that it is a bit of a lower couch, because it fits so elegantly in my low-ceiling living room giving the illusion of higher walls! 10/10 quality score for me!

Comfortability: 10/10

I want to take a moment to talk about how unbelievably comfortable this sofa is. The cushions are firm enough to keep its shape, but soft enough to give cozy support. I also love love love the two oversized throw pillows that come with the sofa – they are stuffed with the perfect amount of feathers that lets you sink in while lounging, but also making them perfectly “fluff-able.”

While the couch is lower to the ground, it is deeper in width than most couches I have seen, making it easy to snuggle up and take a comfortable nap. Comfort gets a 10/10 for me!

Price Range: 8/10

Confession: Every couch we have owned in the past has been under $500. Having lived in such small spaces, it didn’t make sense to invest in a sofa. And we got by – we were lucky to have found some good couches at extremely low prices. But friends, let me tell you – investing in a quality couch (and I mean quality), makes the world of a difference.

My complaint with those lower budget sofas was always the same: shows my dogs hair EVERYWHERE, the cushions lose their shape after a couple of months, some pilling and scuffing here and there…the list goes on. But we have had this sofa for almost two months now and it still looks BRAND. NEW. Not only that – but it’s made of fabric that is easy to clean and hides my dog hair perfectly. Check check check.

At $1599, you may be thinking: “what? Out of my price range.” But you tell me…is it worth investing in a sofa that will last you for years to come now, or to have to ditch that $500 couch in a year or two to replace it with another sub-par one? Seems like an easy answer to me! PLUS…it’s important to mention that a comparable sofa from Pottery Barn (which you can check out here) runs for over $3,000. Yikes!

I promise you won’t be disappointed making the investment on the Sitka Sofa but I’m going to give it an 8/10 because I know it isn’t as budget friendly as most people would like!

A Roundup of the Pros

The cushions don’t slide or lose their shape

This is a big one for me. I hated having to shove the seat cushions back into place with my old couch every. single. day. I’ve also noticed that the couch has kept its shape despite numerous naps, a few movie nights with friends, and lots of puppy snuggles!

The sleek design

I can’t get over how beautiful the couch is. It completely changed the entire tone of our room because it really is easy on the eyes. I love the light grey color, bringing brightness to the space, and the modern shape gives off a classy vibe. This may be one of the top reasons I am a huge fan of it!

It’s made to last

One of the first things I noted to my husband when we took the sofa out of the box was how evident the quality was. It felt heavy and sturdy – no hollow legs, or flimsy fabric. You can tell the quality is on point from the second you lay your eyes on it. I’ve also already had to wash the throw pillow covers once because of a small stain and it came right out. This is also huge – fabric that is easy to clean with a few simple steps!

Comfort is key

I’m sure it’s no secret that I believe this sofa wins the comfort game. Maybe it’s years spent lounging on cheap couches that has me feeling a bit spoiled, but I am obsessed with the feel of this sofa. The fabric material keeps me cool and the cozy cushions make me never want to leave. If comfort is what you are looking for most – this is your couch!

A Few Cons

The price

I mean when I say it’s worth the price. But I know it’s hard to pull the trigger on a higher priced couch. Don’t let this be the reason you say no, though! I promise it’s worth the extra month of savings. 😉

It’s lower to the ground

This isn’t a con for me, but I know it may be an unfavorable characteristic to some. I actually enjoy the sleek touch this feature adds and like I mentioned above, it works great in our lower ceiling room. Further, I like that my dog can jump on and off it easier, and it may be a great option for families with small children!

Overall, I am greatly impressed. I won’t go back. Article has set the bar high for my furniture expectations and I can’t wait to fill our home with more of their incredible pieces! Tell me below…would this sofa look good in your space?

ONE YEAR UPDATE:

I’m posting this just shy of one year from the day we moved this sofa into our space and my review still stands 100% true! We can’t imagine a better sofa for our space and are so pleased with how it has held up over this past year (especially during a whole lot of quarantined nights snuggled up on it – it’s safe to say it’s gotten great use!)

A few updates to share: the sofa cleans really well. We have a corgi who’s dirty paws are always walking all over it and I feel that we rarely have to clean it. I use a tide stick for small stains here and there, or folex spot remover for tougher spots and these both work like magic. I’ve linked both below for you to shop!

Additionally, the sofa did begin to pill a few months after receiving it, so I use a copper head lint remover/fabric shaver once every couple of months to remove the pills. The pilling, however, is not horrible and does not take away from the quality of the couch at all! I would 100% buy this couch again for a different space if we had room. 10/10 it remains! 🙂

  • Thank you so much for the review. I am debating on buying the Sitka couch, but was thinking of waiting for the memorial day sale! I was thinking of getting it in the light grey. My friend has it in white, just like yours, and she loves it. I’m so glad to hear you still love it! Question for you, does the material seem to get dirty quickly? Thank you for your in depth review for people like me who are indecisive!!

    • Hi Alyssa! I am SO glad you found this review helpful, that makes me happy! 🙂 Mine is actually the mist gray but it is definitely a super light grey, so it’s close to white! I LOVE IT! I’ve had the sofa almost a whole year now and it’s still in incredible quality. I have a corgi that always has his dirty paws on it and it’s super easy to clean. I use a tide stain remover stick or folex spot remover for tougher stains. Both work like magic erasers on it! But I don’t feel that I have to clean it very often, its super durable! The sofa does pill a little bit after a few months, but that comes off easy with a copper head lint remover/fabric shaver. I only have to do this once every couple of months! I hope this helps – I would 100% buy the sofa again. It’s amazing! 🙂

      • Literally right after I wrote that it was white, I knew yours was grey haha! I have been looking at so many reviews that I just spaced out there for a second! That’s really good to know too about your corgi. I am thinking of getting an animal soon, and was worried that it may get dirty quick. Also good to know that you use stain remover and it comes right off! Thanks for letting me know about the pilling. I feel like it would bedifficult to find a couch that wouldn’t pill with that type of material. We originally had purchased the Pottery Barn Townsend couch, but when it was delivered it was damaged, so we returned it. It’s nice that Article is a little cheaper too!

I wish Article would give you something for your review, because it’s literally why I’m going to go and buy it without any worries! You’re the best!

      • Gah you are so sweet! Thank you!! 🙂 I am happy that this has helped! I also just updated the bottom of the post for you with links to the products I was talking about (stain remover, pill tool, etc.). I hope you enjoy the couch as much as we have, and feel free to come back and let me know what you think once you take the dive! xo

      • I have had the white one in my cart for months now… Just came across your review. Thought I was 100% sold on it until I read some more recent reviews on Articles site. They are saying its impossible to clean… Your review sounds complete opposite. so torn! help! I cant find anything like this so far….. style, depth…. im in love… I thought!

      • Hi Tamara! It’s a really big decision to make I KNOW IT! I have officially had this couch for 3 years now and I honestly think it’s 100% worth it. I am not sure why others have a difficult time cleaning it – I find it rather easy to clean. Maybe they aren’t using the right products? I use Folex and sometimes my Bissell small green cleaner – works like a charm! And I have a dog and a newborn so think muddy feet, spilled breast milk, etc. It all comes up super easy for me! I will say that the couch does pill over time but for that, I use one of those electric pill shaver tools I got off Amazon and it does the trick great. The back cushions also do sag a bit after some use but they are easy to fluff back to their normal shape. Feel free to DM me on Instagram (brittney_gage) if you want some updated photos of how the couch looks after 3 years! I’d be more than happy to send some to ya. 🙂 Hope this is helpful!

  • I just ordered Sitka sofa for our living room (looking months after months for a sofa— started to feel frustrating) your honest review made me feel more comfortable 😊 I am 5’2” and my hubby is 6’2” we just couldn’t find the right sofa… we looked at pottery barn, crate and barrel, (I mean all the high quality brands—so we have long lasting furniture) but we just couldn’t meet at the middle or something we both liked. We are going for that modern-farm style design too. I have also looked at article many many times and read almost all the reviews. I aso liked how there were real pictures attached to the reviews which gave me perspective how the sofa looked in different lighting and living room designs. I went back and forth with article and today finally made my mind up!! (I was like I just have to make a decision) the only downside of ordering online is that we can’t sit on it to know how it really feels… but oh well I know and convinced that article is a great company to shop from so that makes me more comfortable. I am now excited and counting the days for our new sofa!! 😭
