Nursery Tour: Baby Girl Number Two

My heart was overjoyed to discover that we were having another girl earlier this year. I immediately started dreaming up her nursery and couldn’t wait to bring all of the pieces together. I wanted the space to be whimsical and timeless with notes of vintage inspiration and it was so much fun seeing it all come to life. There is something extra special about putting together a nursery – every little touch and decorative addition has a purpose and will contribute to the very space that our little one will grow. It’s a huge privilege and was by far one of my favorite DIY projects to date! Walk through some of the DIY project steps below and take a peek up close at all of the special details we poured into her room. I hope it inspires you to create a special space for your little one, too!

Nursery Before & After

Looking at the before and after of this room always blows me away. Transforming this guest room into a second nursery was a huge labor of love and it is so special to see how it all came together with just a little bit of paneling, paint, furniture and decor!

Before I dive into some of the close up details of each corner in this room, I thought it would be fun to share the vision board I created before we dived into DIY-ing the space. My vision was to curate a theme that was whimsical and vintage but also timeless and classic so that baby girl could grow with the space. We did end up repurposing a few pieces from my other daughter’s nursery and paired them together with a few new pieces that made the space her own. I love how it turned out!

Nursery Accent Wall

The accent wall in this room is definitely one of my favorite parts of the whole space. We decided on box molding to frame the crib and sconces so that the wall could remain fairly simple but still have a level of texture that would elevate the room and give it that classic, transitional vibe.

To assemble the box molding accent wall, we used basic chair rail molding at 1 3/4″ thick which is a little thicker than is traditional for this type of project but I love how it looks on a bigger wall. After measuring out how we wanted the molding to look, really focusing it around framing the crib and a few accent pieces, we nailed it all to the wall and then painted it to match the wall color (mindful gray by Sherwin Williams). I really think the wall turned out so beautiful, timelessly adding some dimension and texture to the space while perfectly complimenting the focal point of the crib.

DIY Nursery Built-in Closet System

For the closet, we decided to take the doors off and make it more of an open-concept for easy access, more practical organization and to also make the space feel bigger overall. We painted the wall in here Dressy Rose by Sherwin Williams to add a pop of color on the backdrop and I think that really added a level of elegance to the space. After browsing a few different closet system options, we settled on this Allen + Roth one from Lowe’s for a more budget-friendly option that had a ton of different customizable options for us to choose from.

It was pretty easy to assemble and once mounted in place, we customized how we wanted the drawers, shelves and curtain rods and I love that we can change it all up as she gets older. Then, we hung up her clothes, organized all of the drawers and decorated it with a few special touches before it was finally complete!

Room Decor & Small Details

Once we had all of the bigger DIY projects completed and furniture arranged, we focused on a few of the smaller details to tie the nursery all together. Some of my favorites featured here are the vintage heart shelf, ornate mirror, vintage chandelier ceiling fan, reading nook and floral rug. Each piece compliments the space in it’s own unique way and I love how girly and whimsical it all turned out in the end!
